Top 5 50cc Geared Motorbikes of 2023

Updated: Jun 10, 2023

Today, we're going to talk about my personal top 5 best 50cc geared motorcycles of 2023. These are all available in the UK and are Euro 5 spec. We'll be taking into consideration price, spec, and performance.

Now, legally in the UK, all 50cc geared (mopeds) are supposed to be restricted to 30mph. However, there are ways to derestrict them, which is something you should only do if you're experienced and know what you're doing.

With that out of the way, let's get started!

Yamasaki YM50 RE

I'm a bit biased, but the Yamasaki YM50 is my favorite 50cc motorcycle. I've worked on thousands of them, so I know them inside and out. Chances are, if you own one of these bikes in the UK, I've had something to do with it, whether it was unloading it from the container, doing a PDI and test ride, or shipping it to one of Yamasaki's dealers.

The YM50 comes with a 4-stroke engine that delivers 2.8 HP. This will get you up to 30 mph out of the box. The restriction on this bike is electronic and can be sent to Yamasaki.co.uk to have it remapped. This will increase the top speed to about 45 mph, making it a much better ride. However, it's important to remember that this should only be done legally once the rider is 17 years or older.

The good thing about the YM50 is that from 5 feet away, you wouldn't know it's a 50cc motorcycle. It has the feel of a 400cc motorcycle with LED lights all the way around and twin-disk hydraulic brakes on the front. It's a great bike for anyone looking for a fun, stylish, and affordable way to get around.

Mash x-ride 50cc

The X-Ride 50 is a new moped from Mash that is perfect for anyone looking for a fun and stylish way to get around. It's equipped with a powerful 4-stroke engine with fuel injection, which provides smooth acceleration and fuel economy. The X-Ride 50 is also available in 17" x 17" wheels, making it perfect for both on-road and off-road riding.

Here are some of the features of the X-Ride 50

Overall, the X-Ride 50 is a great option for anyone looking for a fun and stylish way to get around. It's powerful, fuel-efficient, and comfortable. If you're looking for a 50cc motorcycle that can do it all, the X-Ride 50 is a great choice.

Yamasaki F30

This is the cheapest bike on the list, and it's also the only one in the Yamasaki range that would be classed as a naked commuter. The main reason for this is the ability to carry a top box on the front. This is a good thing to have, as it gives you a bit of freedom from carrying your helmet everywhere with you. This is one of the more annoying things about owning a motorbike.

The F30 comes with hydraulic disk brakes on the front and a drum brake on the back. It also has a nice upright seating position, which is great for a new rider. The engine on this bike is 90% the same as the YM50, but the EFI system is different. The only reason this makes a difference is when it comes to derestricting this bike. The restriction on this bike is mechanical, and it is just a case of changing the front sprocket from a 13 tooth to a 12. This will give you the extra speed you require.

Price: £1,599 + OTR

Bluroc Heritage 50cc

This bike is a bit of a wild card. It's based on a monkey bike from the 1980s, and it's a lot of fun in a small package. Even a 50cc engine seems fast at this size. It has a similar engine to the YM50 and the F30, and it boasts the same 30 mph top speed. It comes with 10" wheels and has the ability to carry two passengers, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you're both very small. This bike would be ideal for a camper van, as it's small enough to fit inside, and the 125cc version would be perfect for getting around town and exploring the countryside.

Derestricting this bike is a bit more involved than other 50cc motorcycles. You will need to replace the EFI system with a carburetor. This is a relatively simple process, but it does require some basic mechanical skills. Once you have replaced the EFI system, you will need to tune the carburetor. This can be done by adjusting the idle speed and the air/fuel mixture.

Price: £1,895.00 + OTR

Yamasaki DB50

The Yamasaki DB50 is a brand-new model for 2023. It is a very different bike to other Yamasaki models, with some unique features. It has a full stainless steel exhaust, an overhead valve engine that produces 3.2 horsepower, and a 5-speed fully rotational gearbox. It is a tall bike, so if you are 5ft 9in, you may not be able to flat foot it with both feet. It has LED lights all around, with projection headlights, and a fully digital display.

The DB50 is available in a variety of colors, so you can choose the one that best suits your style. It is also backed by a comprehensive warranty, so you can be sure that you are making a wise investment.

Price: £2,299 + OTR

Thank you for taking the time to read this article about the best 50cc motorcycles for 2023. I hope you found it helpful.

There are a few bikes that I would have liked to add to this list, but they are not currently available in the UK. These bikes include the Aprilia SXR50 and the Bluroc Hero. I am sure that these bikes will be available soon, so I will update this list as soon as they are.

In the meantime, I hope you find a bike on this list that you like. If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment below.

I bought my grandson a YM 50 and he loves it. The problem is I think it is dangerous on main roads where the speed on a hill drops to around 15mph. When he was being followed by a very large truck it terrified him.

Can the horse power NOT SPEED be increased to stop it dropping to a standstill uphill.
