Hi All,
As the title to this post suggests I have a Bullit Hero 50cc that will not start!
The background to this is as follows:-
I bought a 2021 Bullit Hero 50cc last month, it had been standing for a year but did start after a bit of encouragement. The guy I bought it from said it had been a rough in the mid range and was lumpy on tick-over, he suspected a sticky valve.
Got the bike home(by van) put some fresh fuel in it and charged the battery, oil looked nice and clean so left alone. It started after a bit of encouragement and a fraction of choke the next morning and rode well for a couple of miles.
Next start needed some encouragement again, maybe a bit more than before. On a short run it started cutting out on tick-over and was difficult to re-start.
I adjusted the air screw on the carb while running warm, and starting improved to first time every time. Took it out for a 10 mile run with no issues, still starting great and running fine.
Over the next few days it became more and more difficult to start and started cutting out on tick-over and when revs dropped.
Eventually it lost all mid range and became really difficult to start. I cleaned the carb, tried the needle in different positions, put in a new plug but nothing helped.
At this stage I could just about get it started and nurse it into life but after 2 -3 mins riding it would cut out and refuse to start.
At this point I thought about the sticky valve theory the previous owner had, so I took the head off (taking photos of the crank marks and timing marks on the cams). I removed the valves and cleaned them up, they didn’t seem bad and sealed nicely when I put them back together (pored petrol in the inlet and exhaust with no leaks).
I then re-assembled everything double checked the cam timing, checked spark and fuel in the carb float bowl.
Now there is no life at all!
Not a pop, not a fart absolutely nothing.
Any suggestions on what to check next would be gratefully received and I am now at a loss what to try next!
Cheers
